ABOUT THE CRUISE:
Back to the days when waterways were highways, the Rubeena (built in 1912), will take us to the Swing Bridge via the canal which links the Port with the Thompson and Latrobe rivers and the Gippsland Lakes to the open sea.
We’ll hear how the Land of Gold flourished and its impact on the Gunaikurnai Nation’s people.
We’ll see the red river gums bearing the scars from clans building their canoes. They are part of the wetlands with its abundance of wildlife and native fauna such as koalas.
We will then sail past McArdells Gap where the Enterprise was built-the first boat on the Gippsland Lakes.
At the junction of the Latrobe River, we pass under the oldest operating swing bridge, built in 1883. The bridge still swings on Saturdays and Sundays to allow vessels to enter the Port of Sale. Our trip is timed to witness this opening.
